Kapili Roofing Gives Back: Hawaii Pacific University Softball

Kapili Roofing continues its celebrations of 15 years in business, and we’re delighted to include Hawaii Pacific University softball in our Give Back season. This year, we’re donating 15 automatic external defibrillators (AEDs), one for each year we’ve been in business, as a way to give back to the communities that have chosen, trusted, and recommended us over the years.

The HPU softball team will be receiving one of these AEDs as a way to support our local athletics as well as the players, coaches, staff, and spectators. We’re providing this equipment with the hope that it will never have to be used; but if we’re able to save just one life, it will all be worth it.

Kapili Roofing: More Than Just Roofs

Since 2007, we’ve been providing Hawaii home and business owners with quality roofs they can trust. We’ve been pioneering the integration of solar panels within roofing systems for better energy efficiency. And after a storm or a hurricane, we’re immediately on the scene where we’re needed most.

Several years ago, we came to realize just how few businesses and organizations on the island have life-saving AED equipment within arm’s reach. We lost a loved one to a cardiac event because we were unable to access an AED. And years later, we were able to save another loved one because an AED was readily accessible.

These experiences have shown us a gap that we have the power to fill. While roofs might be our business, our main specialty is serving others — and we’re excited to use our success to help others.

Why We Chose HPU Softball

Softball has always been a sport that’s near and dear to us. It’s also a fan-favorite sport for many others on our island, which is why it’s not uncommon to see a crowded stadium during softball season. Having an AED within arm’s reach in a busy, high-energy environment could save someone’s life.

Automatic external defibrillators can be the difference between life and death in the event of a cardiac arrest. University campuses are full of young people who are at an increased risk for this type of emergency. And with the high number of visitors that come to HPU’s softball games, we thought this would be a great place for us to make an impact.

These devices are easy to use and can be operated by anyone, regardless of their training or experience. With clear instructions and visual cues, even someone who has never used an AED before can provide life-saving assistance.
