Kapili Roofing Gives Back: Lunalilo Elementary School Campus

Our season of giving is coming to a close, and we’ve enjoyed this opportunity to give back to organizations that make our community so valuable. As part of our 15th business anniversary celebration, we’re donating 15 automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) to provide much-needed medical equipment in public and high-traffic spaces. We’re pleased to include the Lunalilo Elementary School campus in our list of recipients so they can focus on molding the next generation of leaders.

Putting Urgent Medical Care Within Reach

Each year for the past six years, we’ve prioritized giving back to our local communities. Over the years, we’ve noticed that many public places on our islands are not equipped with life-saving medical devices, like AEDs. We’ve made it our mission to change this, as even saving just one life will make all the difference.

When someone has a cardiac arrest, every second counts. The sooner someone can get help, the better their chances of survival. Having an AED nearby can make a difference in whether or not someone survives a cardiac arrest. They are easy to use, and anyone can be trained to use them.

 We are donating these devices in hopes that no one will ever need to use them. But if an emergency occurs, Lunalilo Elementary School will be prepared to help.

Why We Chose Lunalilo Elementary School

Cardiac arrest is a leading cause of death in older people. Every year, thousands of older people die from cardiac arrest. While the exact cause of cardiac arrest is unknown, there are many risk factors that can contribute to its development, such as stress, obesity, smoking, drug use, and high blood pressure. These factors affect adults as well as children and teens, which is why having an AED within the Elementary school will be beneficial.

An AED is a device that can help someone who is experiencing a cardiac arrest. These easy-to-use devices deliver an electric shock to the heart, which can help restore a normal heart rhythm. AEDs are easy to use and can be found in many public places, including schools.

However, many of the schools on our island lack these devices and other life-saving medical equipment. We’re in a position to change this so that urgent medical care can be available to everyone.

Improving Health and Safety for All

Everyone can make a difference, whether it’s building a new roof, providing life-saving medical equipment, or being the person to put that medical equipment to use when it’s needed. Saving just one life touches so many others, and these AEDs can truly be the gift that keeps giving.
